The Next Chrysler 300 Will See Few Changes on the Outside, but Bigger Changes Inside

The current Chrysler 300 has been a huge success for the automaker, which is going to make it difficult for the automaker to redesign the car which debuted over four years ago.

Chrysler suppliers demanding COD

With Chrysler's cash dropping to $2.5 billion as we race to the end of the month, suppliers to the automaker have begun asking for immediate payment for delivered parts. When suppliers demand COD from struggling companies such as Chrysler LLC instead of extending payment terms, it wreaks havoc with the company's financial structure. Chief Financial Officer Ron Kolka and Vice Chairman Tom LaSorda told the Associated Press that the company is "fending them off." In order to work out a viable agreement, the company has scheduled meetings with the suppliers today.

Although $2.5 billion sounds like a nice chunk of change, it's the bare minimum the automaker needs to make payroll and pay suppliers (as of now, Chrysler pays $7 billion to suppliers every 45 days). With the failure of the bailout last night in the Senate, Chrysler is in dire straits - without an immediate cash infusion the company could run out of funds by the end of the month.

Chrysler to Seize the Hemi: Is the V8’s End Near?

Following the similar path that GM announced not too long ago, Chrysler has announced that the Hemi engine “is not the powertrain of the future” as co-President Jim Press put it. This should not come as too much of a surprise as rising gas prices have already affected the sales figures for large V8 engines across the board. More and more people are opting for efficient V6 engines in their place.

Another obvious factor in the decision is the passing of the new CAFE standards. Chrysler is not about to spend the added research money into determining a way to make the Hemi fuel efficient enough to fit into the future fuel economy ratings. It would be a long and expensive path to take as direct-inject V6 engines are closer to spec and can come close enough in horsepower ratings to satisfy most buyers. (more…)

$1,000 Chrysler Coupons Hitting the Mail

Chrysler is getting creative in its attempts to entice car shoppers to its brand. Besides large-scale end-of-the-year sales, with thousands of dollars off leftover 2006 models, Chrysler is mailing out three million coupons for $1,000 to current Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep owners, as well as those who drive other brands. 

The offers are valid through Jan. 2 and can be combined with the already juicy cash-back offers on many vehicles. For a full list of current incentives, go here.

Direct mail isn’t anything new for sales, and almost every automaker sends special deals to current customers. This just seems like a rather large effort, especially when combined with other incentives.
