Porsche Panamera to officially debut at Shanghai show in April

Underscoring the continued importance that automakers are placing on the Chinese market (especially in this difficult economic environment), Porsche has made it official that the new Panamera will debut in the Middle Kingdom in April. Porsche's new four door hatchback coupe/sedan gran turismo thingy will get its first public showing at the Shanghai Motor Show from April 20-28. In spite of its controversial looks, the Panamera should not be wanting for performance. Direct injected engines ranging from the Volkswagen 3.6-liter V6 up to 500 horsepower turbo V8 from the Cayenne will be available.

Backing up the engines will be a choice of 6-speed manual and 7-speed PDK dual clutch gearboxes, with power going to either the rear or both axles. At some point in the next couple of years, Porsche will add its hybrid system to the Panamera as well. Now, if they would just do something about the humpback looks, we might be able to get excited about its arrival. Click on the gallery below or hit the jump to view Porsche's official press release.

Porsche Says Nissan Cheated with the GT-R at the Nurburgring

A few months ago Nissan took the GT-R to the famed Nurburgring in Germany and completed it in a very fast time of 7:29. Well now Porsche is speaking out and saying that Nissan cheated in order to record that record time.

Porsche recently took the US-spec GT-R to the ring with its 911 Turbo and GT2. Unfortunately the GT-R could not compete with the two German cars and came in a full 25 seconds slower than the time that Nissan recorded.

German gets Porsche 911 Carrera up to 35.1 mpg

Proving once again that the way you drive is just as important as what you drive, ex-racer and German TV presenter Klaus Niedzwiedz has managed to average just over 35 miles per gallon (U.S.) in a brand-spanking new Porsche 911 Carrera. The route taken covered 400 miles of urban streets, country roads and a large chunk of Germany's famous autobahn. Niedzwiedz wasn't holding up traffic either, averaging 52 miles per hour for the trip and keeping his engine speeds between 1,800 and 2,000 RPM. So, while the latest 911 with its 345 horsepower, direct-injected flat-six powerplant and seven-speed PDK gearbox is an excellent performance machine, it's also an economy car. Sort of. Fine, it's not an economy car at all, but its EPA fuel mileage rating of 19 city and 27 highway is mighty impressive and proves that modern sportscars, including Chevy's latest Corvette, which is also capable of extremely miserly fuel consumption, are better than their predecessors in every meaningful way.

Gemballa Mirage GT Carbon Edition: Five Alive

So you think the Porsche Carrera GT isn’t rare enough, German tuners Gemballa will modify five units and re-badge it as the Mirage GT Carbon Edition. The name of the modification is your first clue; there will be acres of carbon fiber parts for the aerodynamics and the look of the car. Starting from the front apron to the rear skirt, every section of the car has been enhanced to maximize the true potential of the GT. A hydraulic height adjustment lifts the car up to 45mm to clear those pesky speedbumps. Inside, the V10 inferno has been increased to 670 hp and 630 Nm of torque, shaving the naught to 62 time by two-tenths of a second and bringing the car up to a 208 mph top speed. Like the look? Better hurry though, remember that only five samples will be given the Gemballa carbon treatment. And one more thing, the mod doesn’t include a Carrera! You’ll have to bring your own car in. ~$423,000.
